About Us
Bill Holland
Bill Holland has seriously ridden bikes for nearly four decades, building his first frame in 1976 because every frame he rode was overengineered for his height and weight, making the ride stiff and harsh.
After Bill took his first framebuilding class from the legendary Albert Eisentraut, Holland Cycles produced steel frames for 20 years. Bill made his first titanium frame in 1992 and phased out steel frames four years later due to the incompatibility of the workspaces of the two materials – steel framebuilding can be a pretty messy business, whereas titanium requires an ultra clean environment.
Bill began designing and producing ExoGrid® and IsoGrid® frames in 2004 to offer the lightness of carbon with the added advantages of customization and durability.
In 2010, Bill raced the Furnace Creek 508 as part of a 4-Man 60+ team (that was their average age – Bill was only 58) that won its division and set a new course record. Bill still logs as much as 250 miles a week and currently is training for the Everest Challenge.
Charles Wells
Charles Wells is a rarity in today’s world of mass-produced, standardized wheels, a craftsman skilled in the art of building an utterly balanced, rider-specific, strong, elegant bike wheel by hand.
Charles is a life long recreational cyclist who came of age during the heyday of the touring bike, cruising the roads of Oregon’s lush Willamette Valley. He completed his mechanics certification at UBI and, with a central focus on wheel building, completed DT’s wheel builder certification as well. He brings 25+ years wheel building experience to Holland Cycles and has developed a reputation for building exceptionally reliable wheels.
Charles got his first Holland in 1996, a beautiful fillet brazed steel frame that still turns heads.
Cody Stevenson has ridden over 300,000 miles on a bike, 200,000 miles of which were logged during a decade of racing full time. With 25 years of international racing experience, Cody brings a wealth of knowledge about what works…..and what doesn’t…between people and bicycles.
As a bike fit technician, his keen eye for cycling anatomy and physiology helps Holland Cycles customers optimize their riding experiences, whether they’re racing, riding or just noodling along. Cody’s 17 professional victories, including a stage win in the Tour de Hongrie, give him a good understanding of most facets of the cycling world – he is as interesting to talk to as he is to ride with, and he’ll happily do either if you ask him.
Neil Lacey
Lead mechanic Neil Lacey has over 35 years experience studying, examining, fixing and generally taking care of bicycles. He spent eight years looking after the 7-11 and Motorola pro cycling teams and is a veteran of five Tour de France campaigns. In addition to looking after Holland Cycles customers, Neil keeps his hand (and his wrench) in the pro cycling world, currently caring for the bikes of the Jelly Belly pro cycling team.
